Overview of MHIP Plans
MHIP
A state health insurance plan that provides coverage to Maryland residents who are unable to obtain health insurance due to a health condition or have recently lost group coverage. Plan options:
- HMO Plan
- PPO Plan with $500 medical deductible
- PPO Plan with $1,000 medical deductible
- High Deductible Health Plan with $2,600 combined medical and pharmacy deductible
MHIP Federal
A federal health insurance plan administered by MHIP that provides coverage to Maryland residents who are unable to obtain health insurance due to a health condition and have been uninsured for at least six months. Overview:
- MHIP Federal is a High Deductible Plan
- Has a $1,500 combined medical and pharmacy deductible
- Provides individual coverage ONLY (coverage not available to dependents)
MHIP+
MHIP+ provides discounted premiums and, in some cases, cost sharing to MHIP members with limited income. (MHIP+ is not available to members of MHIP Federal.) Plan options:
- HMO Plan
- PPO Plan with $200 medical deductible
- PPO Plan with $500 medical deductible

To apply for:
- MHIP, you must complete the MHIP Enrollment Application.
- MHIP Federal, you must complete the MHIP Enrollment Application and the MHIP Federal Application.
- MHIP+, you must complete the MHIP Enrollment Application and the MHIP+ Application.
