Behavioral Health
Behavioral health services for the Maryland Health Insurance Plan (MHIP) program are managed by Magellan Health Services on behalf of CareFirst.
- For pre-authorization information, call Magellan Health Services telephone number (1-800-245-7013). The number can also be found on the back of your membership card.
- MHIP HMO members are required to have both inpatient and outpatient services pre-authorized.
- MHIP PPO members are required to have all inpatient services pre-authorized by Magellan.
- For all benefit and claims information, please contact CareFirst Member Services department at the telephone number on the front of your membership card.
- To locate a behavioral health provider, visit the Find a Doctor section of www.carefirst.com. Select Medical, then your plan (MHIP HMO using the BlueChoice network or MHIP PPO using the BluePreferred network), then Behavioral Health.
- MHIP HMO members will be automatically linked to the Magellan provider directory to finish their search.
- MHIP PPO members will finish their search on the Find a Doctor site.
MHIP is administered by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and CareFirst BlueChoice, independent licensees of the BlueCross BlueShield Association.
