Insurance Plan (MHIP) Web site.
MHIP is a state-managed health insurance program for Maryland residents who have been unable to obtain health insurance from other sources. MHIP offers its participants access to both CareFirst BlueChoice HMO and CareFirst Blue Preferred PPO networks. These plans are administered by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and CareFirst BlueChoice, Inc.
The Maryland General Assembly established the Maryland Health Insurance Plan under the Health Insurance Safety Net Act of 2002. A Board of Directors governs the plan, which operates as an independent unit of the Maryland Insurance Administration.

MHIP to Reduce Monthly Premiums for Limited Income Members
Governor Martin O'Malley today announced that the Maryland Health Insurance Plan (MHIP) will reduce premiums for its subscribers who have limited income. A quarter of MHIP's subscribers will benefit from the premium reduction. Click here to read the release in its entirety. -
